The P-graded regalite mineral construction of 3M's purple sanding belts gives them an aggressive initial cut, consistent cut rate, and long life. Other features include: better leveling with uniform finish; higher stock removal with less heat and loading; and reduced labor cost per workpiece. The belt's butt splice allows unidirectional sanding for extended life and reduced abrasive cost per workpiece.

These seem to cut well on a variety to woods and have a good lifespan.
Given the long wear these are likely the least expensive belts you can buy. The belts can be used in either direction (or switched), do not clog quickly and any clogs clean easily. These belts have a long-lasting grit. This is especially useful when removing a tough finish prior to refinishing.
